MSU Extension trades green for purple to support military families

Michigan State University (MSU) Extension staff traded in Spartan green for purple to honor military families at the fourth annual PURPLE UP! Day event on April 15. Attended by more than 40 military families, the event was hosted by Extension’s 4-H Military Partnerships Operation: Military Kids and offered a day of fun, camaraderie and enjoyment for the families of our state’s service-members.

Lansing Lugnuts and Michigan 4-H team up to host 4-H Science Day at the ballpark

Youth and their families attending the Lansing Lugnuts game on April 26 will enjoy more than a day of baseball. For the third year in a row, the Lansing Lugnuts have teamed up with Michigan State University Extension 4-H Youth Development Programs to host 4-H Science Day atCooley Law School Stadium.

Two 4-H shooting sports teams compete at national contest

Eight Michigan 4-H’ers represented the state at the 2013 National 4-H Shooting Sports Invitational. Heartland Public Shooting Park in Grand Island, Neb., welcomed 540 participants from 35 states for the June 23-28 competition. Michigan 4-H sent two teams, one in air rifle and the other in archery.

Discovery Camp teaches youth how to make an impact in their Michigan communities

Youth got a glimpse into the life of a scientist during Michigan 4-H Discovery Camp June 24-28. They spent the week among Michigan State University faculty members, leading researchers and other youth with similar interests. The main focus of the camp is to expose youth to the natural resources and agriculture industry in Michigan.

Youth explored an assortment of topics at Exploration Days

More than 2,500 youth dispersed across the Michigan State University campus to partake in a variety of hands-on, skill-related activities June 19-21 during Michigan 4-H Exploration Days. Sessions on topics ranging from sheep heart dissection to sailing to Irish bowling immediately had participants excited about all they would be doing during the three-day precollege program.

4-H Discovery Camp introduces youth to Michigan’s natural resources

Michigan State University (MSU) will host the annual Michigan 4-H Discovery Camp June 24-28. During this five-day, camp youth ages 13-19 will explore the impacts of alternatives to fossil-based fuels.
